Vina Valdivieso Cabernet Franc Single Vineyard 2008

Tasted 8/9/11. 14.5% ABV. About £12.00 UK retail. Presented by winemaker Brett Jackson to the Chelsea and Fulham Wine Society at My Dining Room, SW6.
This is a wine that is harder to find but well worth seeking out. We think if Cabernet Franc as being the blending grape of claret but in Bordeaux, it used to be the main varietal before Jonny-Come-Lately Cabernet Sauvignon in the late 19th Century! South America is now producing some lovely single varietal / single vineyard Cabernet Franc.
This wine comes from old vines - about 50 years old. The colour is violet, with a nose of dark berries and cherries. The palate has pepppery, capsicum notes and there's good structure for keeping. Best red of the night in my opinion. From 2011, 17.5/20.
